dc.description.abstractEn este documento se analiza la reforma institucional reciente en el ámbito monetario de Cuba que prohíbe la circulación del dólar estadounidense en el territorio nacional y generaliza el uso del peso cubano convertible (CUC);, después de la implementación de otras medidas de desdolarización de la sólo 10 años después con la iniciativa del pago de mayores tasas de interés respecto del dólar a los depósitos a plazo fijo y a término en moneda nacional y en los CUC. El proceso de desdolarización de la economía cubana se inició virtualmente en la misma fecha en que se despenalizó la tenencia de divisas en 1994, cuando comenzó la circulación del peso convertible que alcanzaría plena convertibilidad sólo 10 años después con la iniciativa del pago de mayores tasas de interés respecto del dólar a los depósitos a plazo fijo y a término en moneda nacional y en los CUC. En 2003 se implantó un control de cambios para las empresas cubanas que operan en divisas, y en 2004 se prohibió la circulación del dólar en efectivo y se generalizó el uso del peso convertible en el territorio nacional.En abril de 2005 se apreció el CUC en un 8% con respecto a todas las divisas extranjeras. The Cuban Monetary Reform Abstract: This document analyses the recent monetary reform in Cuba, which prohibits the circulation of American dollars on the national territory and generalizes the use of the Cuban convertible peso (CUC);, this follows the implementation of other measures of de-dollarization of the Cuban economy. The Cuban economy's de-dollarization process was initiated on the same date as the decriminialisation of holding foreign currency in 1994, which is also when the circulation of the convertible peso began. The convertible peso reached full convertibility only ten years after, upon the initiative of payment of greater interest rates for the dollar of fixed term deposits and in terms of national currency and the CUC. In 2003, an exchange control mechanism was implemented for the Cuban companies operating with foreign currencies and in 2004 the circulation of dollars in cash was prohibited and a generalized use of the peso on national territory was introduced. In April of 2005, the CUC was estimated at 8% in comparison to foreign currencies.
