Remarks by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC (medium shot) .-- Remarks by Professor Mazzucato, in English (with the help of a presentation). It presents the current economic and social challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean that have highlighted both the structural problems of the region and the urgent need to find new engines of economic growth. The region will not be able to overcome the prevailing economic, health and climate crises if the old approaches to economic development continue to be applied. Governments can set ambitious targets and collaborate with willing private sector actors to promote a truly sustainable and inclusive economy. Through mission-oriented industrial policies, countries can stimulate cooperation, diversify production, increase productivity and guide sustainable and inclusive economic growth.-- Dialogue with invited authorities.-- Closing of the conference.
