Resumen
Introduction The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean has been carrying out studies on the status of women in the region on a systematic basis since 1975. These studies, which are undertaken in response to ECLAC's concern to mainstream the gender perspective into its activities of research and cooperation for development, have covered a wide range of topics, including, inter alia, sociodemographic factors, the participation of women in education, in employment, in politics and in social movements, family responsibilities, gender violence and human rights and the protection of environment. National and regional diagnostic analyses have been prepared and policy guidelines have been formulated. National, subregional and regional projects have been designed, assessed and executed. The results of this work have been presented at governmental, academic or expert debates and have ultimately led to the publication in book form of research findings concerning specific groups of women, women in the most vulnerable sectors, young women, women in urban and rural low-income sectors, etc. With a view to systematizing the already substantial amount of information that has been gathered, this updated bibliographic list of the main studies carried out during the past 24 years has been prepared for those interested in the subject, many of which are published both in English and in Spanish. Although the documents prepared prior to 1985 are available in the library only and not for distribution, they are kept on the list to give a clear idea of the range of topics that have been undertaken.
