The Dominican Republic: Economic evolution during 2007 and Outlook for 2008 Abstract: Characteristics of the recent evolution The gross domestic product (GDP) experienced a real growth of 8.5% in 2007, continuing the intense growth trend of the last two years, during which the average yearly growth rate was 10%. Employment increased, with a growth of 3.3% in the number of new jobs. Twelve month inflation finalised the year at 8.9%. A fiscal surplus equalent to 0.1% of GDP was achieved, while the current account deficit rose substantially to 5.4% of GDP.
