Haití: evolución económica durante 2004 y perspectivas para 2005

Abstract

1. Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente Los eventos sociopolíticos que conmovieron a Haití durante el año 2004 tuvieron un fuerte impacto negativo sobre el desempeño de su economía. La renuncia del Presidente Jean Bertrand Aristide el 29 de febrero, el despliegue de una fuerza multinacional en el país, la formación de un gobierno de transición y la implementación -desde junio- de la Misión de las Naciones Unidas de Estabilización en Haití (MINUSTAH), son algunos de los factores que reflejaron una coyuntura de inestabilidad en un país que atravesaba de por sí una situación difícil durante los últimos años. Se contrajeron tanto el producto interno bruto (PIB) (-3,8%) como el consumo (-2%) y la inversión (-3,1%), mientras que se registró un ligero aumento de las exportaciones (2,8%) y el estancamiento de las importaciones (0,2%). General features of the recent evolution The sociopolitical events that affected Haiti during the year 2004 had a strong negative impact on the economic performance. The resignation of President Jean Bertrand Aristide on the 29th of February, the formation of a transitional government, the deployment of a multinational force in the country as well as the implementation - since June- of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), are some of the factors that reflect a trend of instability in a country that has found itself in a difficult situation during the past years. Decreases of the gross domestic product (GDP) of -3, 8%, the rate of consumption (-2%), and the rate of investment (-3, 1%) were observed, while a slight increase of exports (2, 8%), and a stagnation of imports (0, 2%) were registered.
