dc.description.abstractLa Agenda 2030 para el desarrollo sostenible enfatiza la implementación de medidas efectivas y equitativas para abordar el desafío urgente del cambio climático. El despliegue de las tecnologías bajas en carbono, como los paneles solares, las turbinas eólicas y las baterías de iones de litio, altamente intensivas en minerales, incentivará una fuerte expansión de las actividades mineras en América Latina y el Caribe. La presencia de minerales como el litio, el cobre, el níquel, entre otros, en los países de América Latina y el Caribe presenta opciones de desarrollo del sector minero y oportunidades de diversificación productiva y agregación de valor, tanto aguas arriba como aguas abajo, generación de redes de proveedores locales e integración y cooperación regional. Sin embargo, el suministro confiable y asequible de estos recursos está sujeto a riesgos por el lado de la oferta y a presiones inducidas por la demanda.
