dc.description.abstractLa región de América Latina y el Caribe ha realizado destacables esfuerzos para lograr la igualdad de género. Para consolidar los avances y cumplir con los compromisos asumidos, la región debe acelerar el ritmo hacia la igualdad sustantiva y el pleno ejercicio de derechos de todas las mujeres y las niñas. En este documento se analizan los indicadores de género para el seguimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) de la Agenda 2030, en sincronía con la Agenda Regional de Género emanada de la Conferencia Regional sobre la Mujer de América Latina y el Caribe. Se examinan particularmente los ODS 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 y 17. La región enfrenta desafíos para alcanzar un desarrollo más productivo, inclusivo y sostenible, y el progreso hacia el logro de los ODS es, en la mayoría de ellos, demasiado lento o insuficiente. Es necesario acelerar los esfuerzos para superar los cuatro nudos estructurales de la desigualdad de género: i) la desigualdad socioeconómica y la persistencia de la pobreza; ii) los patrones culturales patriarcales, discriminatorios y violentos y el predominio de la cultura del privilegio; iii) la división sexual del trabajo y la injusta organización social del cuidado, y iv) la concentración del poder y las relaciones de jerarquía en el ámbito público.
