dc.description.abstractEn este número del Observatorio demográfico se presenta un conjunto de tablas abreviadas de mortalidad por sexo, estimadas y proyectadas por quinquenios, que fueron elaboradas como insumos para las estimaciones y proyecciones nacionales de población. Estas tablas corresponden a los 20 países de América Latina y, por primera vez, a la subregión en su conjunto, para el período 1980-2020. Las cifras contenidas en esta publicación constituyen una revisión de las presentadas en el Observatorio demográfico Nº 4 de octubre de 2007. En las notas metodológicas de este Observatorio, además de una breve descripción de la metodología utilizada en las estimaciones y proyecciones de mortalidad, se hace una relación por país de las fuentes de datos consideradas. Como es habitual en el Observatorio demográfico, se incluye también un capítulo analítico con un panorama general de la información presentada. En el cuadro 1a se incluye la población total de los 20 países de América Latina entre 1950 y 2050, y en el cuadro 1b se muestra la población de estos mismos países por año calendario para el período 1990-2030. En los cuadros 2 a 11 se presenta un conjunto de indicadores demográficos, entre ellos las tasas de crecimiento, las tasas globales de fecundidad, las tasas brutas de natalidad y mortalidad, la esperanza de vida al nacer y la tasa de mortalidad infantil. En los cuadros 12 a 32 se presentan las tablas abreviadas de mortalidad por sexo del período 1980-2020 para América Latina en su conjunto y para cada uno de los 20 países.
dc.description.abstractEngThis edition of the Demographic Observatory presents a series of abridged life tables by sex, estimated and projected by five-year periods, which were prepared as inputs for national population estimates and projections. The tables were prepared for the 20 countries of Latin America and also, for the first time, for Latin America as a whole, for the period 1980-2020. The figures in this publication are a revised version of those presented in Demographic Observatory No. 4 of October 2007. The methodological notes contained in this edition of the Observatory, as well as briefly describing the methodology used in the mortality estimates and projections, give an account of the data sources used for each country. Like previous editions of the Demographic Observatory, this issue also includes an analytical section containing a general overview of the information presented. Table 1a shows the total population of the 20 countries of Latin America between 1950 and 2050, and table 1b shows the population of those same countries by calendar year for the period 1990-2030. Tables 2 to 11 present a series of demographic indicators, including growth rates, global fertility rates, gross birth and death rates, life expectancy at birth and infant mortality rates. Tables 12 to 32 are abridged life tables by sex for the period 1980-2020 for Latin America as a whole and each of the 20 countries.
