dc.description.abstractEl Anuario Estadístico de América Latina y el Caribe responde a las demandas de los usuarios que requieren información estadística confiable y rigurosa para el análisis de la situación económica, social y ambiental de la región. Se ha incluido en esta edición información que se encontraba disponible hasta mediados de diciembre de 2012. La estructura de la presente edición del Anuario Estadístico es similar a la de 2011, pues no se han introducido modificaciones en términos de contenidos o diseño. El Anuario tiene cuatro capítulos. En el primero se presentan los indicadores demográficos y sociales, y refleja el esfuerzo especial realizado para incluir la dimensión de género y el tema de la pobreza en la información estadística. En el segundo capítulo se reúnen las estadísticas económicas de comercio internacional, balanza de pagos y precios internos, así como las cuentas nacionales (expresadas en moneda nacional y en dólares). En el tercer capítulo se presenta la información cuantitativa disponible sobre el medio ambiente. En este caso, se prioriza la información proveniente de fuentes internacionales. Los datos disponibles y recopilados por la CEPAL correspondientes a este tercer capítulo se publican exclusivamente en versión electrónica. La abundante información —a menudo diferente y a veces contradictoria— a la que los usuarios pueden acceder obliga a prestar particular atención a las fichas técnicas, donde se documenta el origen de los datos, su definición y cobertura. Esta referencia se presenta en el cuarto capítulo, sobre metodología y metadatos, que complementa la información más específica que figura en las notas al pie de los cuadros.
dc.description.abstractEngThe Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean seeks to respond to the demands of users who require reliable and sound statistical information in order to analyse the economic, social and environmental situation of the region. This year’s edition includes information available up to mid-December 2012. This edition of the Statistical Yearbook is similar in structure to the 2011 edition as no significant changes have been made in terms of content or design. The Yearbook comprises four chapters. The first covers demographic and social indicators and continues to reflect special efforts to mainstream the gender perspective in statistical information and to encompass poverty-related topics. The second chapter presents economic statistics relating to trade, the balance of payments and domestic prices, as well as national accounts. The statistical series are expressed in domestic currency and constant dollars. The third chapter provides the quantitative information available on the environment. Here, priority is given to data from international sources. The electronic version also includes the data available and compiled by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) for this chapter. Given the abundance of different, sometimes conflicting, data now accessible to researchers, special attention must be paid to the data sheets on which the source of the data, their definition and coverage are specified. This information is presented in the fourth chapter, which deals with methodology and metadata, supplementing the more specific information contained in the footnotes to each of the tables.
